arduino-core software package provides Code, examples, and libraries for the Arduino platform, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.10 (Yakkety Yak) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install arduino-core
arduino-core is installed in your system.
Make ensure the arduino-core package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep arduino-core *
You will get with arduino-core package name, version, architecture and description in a table
